Time for my big year end blogpost about the Atmosphere.

From the personal computing perspective, the cloud has been a disaster — but we shouldn't run away from it.

We can solve a lot of problems by connecting our clouds, turning it into atmospheric computing.
Atmospheric Computing
Cloud computing has been extremely successful, but it lost the values that drove personal computing. We can solve this by evolving forward.

Next up: Tron Ares. Never been a particularly huge Tron fan likely just due to age and timing. Am a huge NIN fan but the handling of the soundtrack left a bad taste in my mouth. So let's see if I like the movie.
Watching The Abyss for the first time since childhood. Gonna have to look up a video on how the effects were done.

Decided on a whim today to finally hang up the lights I've had in my shed for the last 8 years. Still gotta get power to them but will be cool.

Great thread
end of 2024 thoughts on ATProtocol programs / products:

1. @stream.place - has made massive strides even just in the last two months. love webhook function and metadata features.

2. @leaflet.pub - has become the default blog post program for atproto. needs more multimedia features for my usecase.

Call me crazy, but I do think it's important for news orgs to work on business models that don't treat their readers like enemies, just like I thought the same of record labels decades ago. Too many business models are antagonistic. We can fix that.

Viewfinder is free for a day on the Epic Games Store. Very cool puzzle game with some amazing visual tricks. I picked it up recently for an already discounted price, and am near the end of it.

I'm well aware that I'm 20 odd years late with another of my sizzling hot controversial takes, but... The Wire is really good, hey? Halfway through the first season, and I am all in.

Don't gamble on sports, don't listen to podcasts that promote it. They're getting paid, you aren't.

I've watched two different The Thing movies recently, and now starting Frankenstein and I'll be damned if it doesn't start basically the same way.

Rereading the 3 extant books of The Locked Tomb, this month, & holy damn but Tamsyn Muir's a good mystery writer, & writer of Mysteries. Each book reveals the key to some crucial enigma so subtly & quietly you could miss it, but once you realise, everything rotates around it & you go "ohhh…! …Fuck!"

In the short term, it is easier and cheaper to be a jerk. However, your convention won’t last very long. It’s not about AI. It’s about respecting the creative arts.
Conventions, if you use AI do not be surprised if creators turn down your invitations to be guests or even to be on panels.

Do not use tools trained on stolen work from creators and then tell them you want to honor or uplift them - that’s not what you’re doing. You’re stealing and being lazy.

I just watched Now You See Me Now You Don't. Gotta be the cheesiest movie I've seen in a while. Nipple hardening levels of cringe.

I'm not the only one that gets that, right?

Watched The Thing. Some of these practical effects are good even still. I'm sure most of them would have been great for the time.

With that said, I don't think it's all it's cracked up to be.

Between @yogscast.com and @goodtimesociety.com we have some great Blood on the Clocktower productions releasing right now. Probably NRB as well but I think it's for their patrons?
