As a pretty committed snake hater I approve this message. Yes, I know they are majestic animals. I am just terrified of them.
The medieval English drew strong distinctions between snakes (BAD) & eels (GOOD).

We can see this in Bede, who begins his 8th C. Ecclesiastical History by noting that Britain is blessed with both:

1: many, many eels
2: excellent jet, which he says is a natural serpent repellent

Every discovery or evolution of computer science, or of potential intelligence beyond earth is exciting; then I think of everything I’ve read about this since 8th grade and I get terrified. Thanks loads reading.

@calm.com I just got a notification from you that made me laugh out loud. Also your sleep stories have changed our routine at bedtime. My phones name is now Alan, because the Calm Ap on it has been his for 4 years. Something about Alan Sklaar’s voice is like chloroform to my anxious 12 yo. Thanks!

My 10 yo asked me to pay him for getting an 100% on something my 13 yo “She doesn’t believe in that” raises finger quotes “she believes in doing well for its own sake or whatever” lowers finger quotes annoyed Me: Doesn’t it feel good to do well? Both nod. 13 yo “DANG IT!” #parentingisfun

It’s easy reading the news to be bummed about the state of education. The scores going down etc. We have 49 million students to educate, 89% in public schools. That’s an insane amount of education and needs, and range of abilities. BUT…

We have to work to support academically at risk students. They are often facing the biggest barriers to success and may need new and inventive solutions. How can districts address these students?

A 2013 study found that a delay in learning to read has no effect on reading fluency at age 11; indeed, later learners had slightly superior comprehension. Also, as other research has shown, explicit instruction usually wasn't required to achieve phonemic awareness: tinyurl.com/4r2btdek

I love working at Derivita bc with a high quality translatable math content platform, nobody is locked out. ELLs need scaffolds in curriculum that show true understanding without vocabulary or instructions as a barrier. Math is universal, curriculum supports need language support to include all.

Hi. I’m newish…some of my favorite educators are here-so yea! I represent a new math platform called #Derivita that lives at the intersection of technology and student centered learning, data and engagement, micro and macro. Derivita is poised to solve Math’s problems. #mathtalk #mathtech

I became a teacher in 2005, edtech was exciting, but math stayed digital worksheets?!? Now I am at Derivita, w auto scored feedback, worked solutions based on Ss numbers, infinite problems, and Ts pick problems-all tied to standards. Finally, the future I wrote my thesis on. #mathoutcomes #edtech

Story problems can be inspired by our favorite movies!
The Home Alone pizza scene had me thinking about the cost of pizza back in 1990 vs today.

Also if 17 people share 10 pizzas, how much of a pizza would eat person get? Comment your favorite line from Home Alone. #iteachmath #edusky

The ability to debate and discuss and see interconnectivity of ideas and innovation is critical to evolve technologically and culturally. Discourse that benefits STEM, can be a benefit to (and may result from) humanities. The more we all know about everything by the better off we are.

I just love this
A student in my ELL class was using her phone. When I asked her 2 put it away, she told me she was texting her mother in Mexico.I jokingly told her to give me phone so I could send mom a text. She gave it & asked me 2 send audio message. When class heard message I sent, EVERYONE asked me 2 do same :)
