For me, Christmas doesn't really start until Blue Peter have closed their last show before Christmas with the "carol round the tree", which I maintain is one of the best produced bits of TV ever.

Malcolm Terris and James Bate appearing in the last episode of the 1972 Granada TV serial "The Intruder". By coincidence both appeared as detectives in episodes of ATV's Thriller. Both were also originally from the North East (Sunderland & Whitley Bay respectively).
