I thought I was a music obsessive, but an old schoolchum has just emailed me to say it was 50 years' ago on Monday that we saw Queen at the Coventry Theatre, including their third ever performance Bohemian Rhapsody. I struggle to remember which album it's on.

I have just discovered ‘Hero and Heroine’ by The Strawbs. How did I miss this in the 70s? It’s right up my proggy street.

My wife and I watched 'The Thursday Murder Club' last night. It makes 'Midsomer Murders' look like 'The Wire'. How can anything containing so much acting pedigree be so bad?

At the Rescue Rooms in Nottingham to see Von Hertzen Brothers. I feel a bit out of place. I’m not wearing a black t-shirt and shorts. Plus, I’ve never heard of any of the black t-shirt band names. South of Salem? Weather Systems? Sooty?

It’s really sad that we won’t have free-to-air Tour de France on ITV any longer. TNT is OK, but it isn’t cheap and the commentary from @nedboulting.bsky.social and David Miller knocks their team into a top hat.

Looking at photos of Oasis concert-goers in today’s Guardian, I am reminded of historical enactment groups. Instead of round helmets and cavalier hats, there are bucket hats.

I’ve had better afternoons. A doctor has just put a camera inside my bladder. No problems, but the nurse who checked me in needs to work on her patient skills. “Don’t be nervous, but it will be very painful” (it wasn’t btw).
