Burdensome Medicaid renewal processes are a known source of coverage loss among eligible people. In spring 2023, the pause in Medicaid disenrollment resulting from the COVID-19 public health emergency...

this reminds me that i think people would be less interested in “raw milk” if we called it “poop milk” or “shit milk”
My big problem with the phrase “granola fascism” is that granola is delicious as hell, granola does not deserve to be catching strays like this. “Raw milk fascism” is more appropriate. Thank you.

I would like to understand more (polling, otherwise) the merits of being a 'no' from the outset versus claiming to be 'duped' later.

We ask: "What can be done, given the current administration’s vigorous efforts to undermine vaccination?"

We suggest 4 priorities:

1. Congressional leaders must recognize they were misled in supporting RFK Jr. He must resign or be fired. Congress can hold hearings & investigate his actions.

Reminder that the term “peer review” was introduced precisely to avoid political meddling in funding decisions
Cancelling research grants that were peer reviewed, recommended & awarded because it threatens the current regime’s political agenda is the real infringement of our rights + a violation of the NSF’s duty to honor contracts & ethically manage public funds appropriated by the US Congress. 12/

Aside from the bigger picture, I’m not sure where Cassidy gets the idea that “states are supposed to pay 40%.”

FMAP is calculated according to a formula in statute, which enforces a floor of 50% and a ceiling of 83% match.

Louisiana is only paying 32 cents on the dollar.
Senator Cassidy comes out for enormous cuts to Medicaid.

Not surprising given that he helped write the Graham-Cassidy Medicaid destruction plan in 2017.

Expect to see more of this from Rs - but don’t be fooled: cutting money to states to run Medicaid means people lose coverage and benefits.

There are different ways in which honesty can be understood and what people consider to be the truth.
One approach relies on evidence and is concerned with the state of the world.
The other approach relies on intuition and is concerned with sincere expression of belief.

Is anyone studying improvements in grad student mental health as a result of having AI to 'talk through' your thesis with? It'd be a rough diff-in-diff but my working H1 is that it is quite helpful in a lonesome process. I had to bribe @johnquattrochi.bsky.social et al with beer to listen! ;-)

I don't want to be in the position of defending Leana Wen... but the idea that only people who work in clinical or academic medicine can 'do' public health is also infuriating.
Routine reminder that Leana Wen’s masters degree is in economics, not public health. She hasn’t worked in clinical or academic medicine in over a decade. (She is 42.)
At this point, probably better if we just got rid of the entire WaPo opinion section.

Please don't ask whether some real or hypothetical event "would make you more or less likely to support [CANDIDATE]" -- it prompts people to share their preeixsting feelings on the event/person, produces misleading results, overestimates impact and makes me personally sad
When gauging public reactions to the latest controversy, it's important not to conduct or share misleading polls. Our new paper in Public Opinion Quarterly is a template for how to (and how not to) poll about the effect of political developments.

I am not convinced "soft power" branding has resonance with those making decisions.

One thing I see missing from almost every argument about saving PEPFAR and USAID more generally is why it _must_ be government and not the private sector to carry out these functions.
