Putting this feature together, I kept thinking back to this wonderful talk that @amandafarough.ca held at @indiedevday.bsky.social 2024 about game preservation and the important work of her and colleagues at the wonderful @hitsave.org. I learned a lot from it! mobilesyrup.com/2024/10/04/v...

Thanks to your donation dollars we can do important data recovery work, like uncovering the print art used for Generations Lost on the Sega Genesis, revealing two abs that were thought to be lost due to cropping

Your 3D scanned keshi today is the Unicorn enemy from Ghosts 'n Goblins!

This is from a set of 10 keshi figures called Famicom Superheroes Assemble (ファミコンスーパーヒーロー大集合), which Takahashi released in or around 1986.

"Point-and-click" started as a camera phrase that was adopted by authors to refer to using a mouse. Suddenly in August 1989 two different magazines described two different games as a "point-and-click adventure."

A few people have said my latest videos are the first time they ever heard the term "platform adventure," which admittedly used to be a lot more common than it is today. But it got me thinking about where these various adventure spin-off terms came from. Here's a thread. 🧵

There's definitely some differences from the final game. The combo counter looks different (the final game doesn't leave your previous hit count on screen like that), the boss health bar is backwards (normally the black bit is on the right side) and some of the voice clips are different.

Murai's voice clips also differ here compared to retail, sounds kinda like fiend form from way later in the game.

The inferno art had this circle on hand that seemed different (not super sure)

The vfx for the fiend's digging looked lower res but maybe that's the just video quality

P sure it is cause:
-The health bar color is off vs retail game on both ryu (starting at monestary) and murai.

-The forward stab OTG's here but doesn't on retail I don't think

-The way ryu revived looked like the talisman but without the animation entirely

-The nunchuck seemingly does more damage

Happy Day 10, everyone! Today our community unwrapped a gift that seems bland at first, but could end up being very special: a Tecmo tape holding Ninja Gaiden (2004) footage...dated October 2002! That predates release by a year and a half, meaning this could be beta footage! Watch the video below!
