The above video clips were found on Hot Newz 64, a promotional tape mailed out by Nintendo in 1999. Rare was the star of the show on this tape, as it featured both DK64 and Jet Force Gemini! Watch the full tape on our archive site: archive.hitsave.org/ark:/78322/5...

We needed an expansion pak just to fit all of this DK64 video in one thread! Actor Steve Sobel is joined by Nintendo employee Brian Hartman, and yet another banana makes it into a Nintendo promotional tape!

Happy 26th birthday to Donkey Kong 64! Rare's enormous Kong collectathon was one of the few Nintendo 64 games to require the expansion pak, and came bundled with the device as a result! Imagine the power you could wield with EIGHT MEGABYTES of RAM!

This delightfully corny bit of gaming news coverage was part of FUSE Magazine's first (and last) issue. 60-100 hours? Street Fighter-like gameplay?!?! Is this what counts as journalism these days? Learn more about this tape on our archive site: archive.hitsave.org/ark:/78322/6...

Happy 27th birthday to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time! After the success of Link to the Past, Zelda fans had to wait about 7 years for Link's 3D debut...about as long as Link spent sealed in the Temple of Light! Fortunately, the Hero of Time did not disappoint...and that's putting it mildly!

Two decades ago today, Microsoft redefined the video game console space with the release of the Xbox 360. HD visuals, achievements and Gamerscore, expanded media features, and of course the revamped Xbox Live service were among the many advancements the system brought to the table.

This strategy guide tape is more interesting than it may first appear too; the intro has a short animation done by Nintendo's own Yōichi Kotabe, and one of the game players named in the credits is Satoshi Tajiri, co-founder of Game Freak and creator of Pokémon!

35 years ago today, Nintendo released the Super Famicom in Japan, alongside F-Zero, PilotWings, and most notably: Super Mario World! The impact of Nintendo's 16-bit system cannot be overstated, and its enormous software lineup contains some of the greatest games ever made. Which is your favorite?

Good question! The Game Boy Camera released in 1998, and Armond was featured in several of the VHS promos that were released in the 90s and early 2000s, so the time period does line up. Might be worth looking into!

This clip was found on a Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask promotional VHS tape! You read that right, Nintendo and Toys R Us double dipped with this mailer, once again tapping Armond Williams as talent! Learn more about this tape on our archive site: archive.hitsave.org/ark:/78322/6...

Happy 25th birthday to Banjo-Tooie! The ambitious sequel to Banjo-Kazooie continued Rare's trend of pushing the limits of N64 hardware, including in ways that Nintendo had to veto! Anyone else wonder what life might have been like in a "Stop 'n' Swop" timeline? Would our N64s have paid the price?

So where did THIS clip come from? Remember when physcial movie releases had tons of bonus features? This clip came from the disc 2 of the DVD release of Die Another Day! A little cross promotion never hurts, right? Learn more about this disc in our archive: archive.hitsave.org/ark:/78322/6...

This clip was found directly on the 007: Nightfire game disc? 2000s Electronic Arts games were full of fun behind the scenes unlockables like this. We'd love to see that sort of thing make a come back! Learn more about this disc in our archive: archive.hitsave.org/ark:/78322/6...

Happy 23rd birthday to 007: Nightfire! EA's third entry in the #JamesBond video game franchise made excellent use of Pierce Brosnan's likeness, but it wouldn't be until Everything or Nothing that they got his voice to go along with it!

We have that in our archive too! Haven't given it a proper listing yet, but hopefully will be able to do so soon. Here's a size reference! Very clever marketing on Nintendo's part.

EA's Star Wars: Battlefront turns 10 years old, today! Even a decade later, the game stands out as one of the most authentic-looking #StarWars experiences in any video game, with a level of fidelity and screen-accuracy that few other studios have been able to match! Maybe DICE was using the Force?

Happy 20th birthday to True Crime: New York City! The 2nd game in the series featured an open-world Manhattan, Hollywood talent, and even NYPD consulting, but still fell short of sales expectations. The planned Hong Kong sequel was cancelled, but eventually was reborn as Square Enix's Sleeping Dogs!
