New — I wrote about the myriad ways journalism’s moral rot manifests, and how our crumbling institutions have created the conditions for it to fester:
Moral rot in elite journalism is killing the whole field
The Nuzzi/RFK Jr. mess and the revelation of Esptein's journo pals lay bare a profound moral absence at the heart of our free press.

The Trump White House is a Safe Space for Sex Traffickers, Dictators, and Fraudsters

There will be no help for America's children or workers, but if you're a corrupt dictator or a sex trafficker who can benefit Trump, then you'll be protected and welcomed!

Judge Jeffrey Brown is a Trump appointee.
Whoa: A federal court just barred Texas from using its new congressional map, drawn by the GOP to target Dems.

"Substantial evidence shows that Texas racially gerrymandered the 2025 Map."

Court says the old map must be used in 2026. Appeals are certain. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Just so we’re all clear:

Yes, everybody needs to take breaks and protect their peace. Yes, everybody needs time to enjoy frivolous things and laugh and relax. It’s the only way to get through this.

But bragging about ignoring what’s going on in the news is not cute. It’s privileged AF.

We have basically entered “crimes against humanity” territory now. Where are our elected leaders? What are they doing to stop this? When do we get our own Nuremberg trial?

JUST IN: Two ballot measures to protect public libraries from the conservative city council in Huntington Beach are both ahead by very wide margins.

Measure to repeal a 'book review committee' up 61/39.
Measure to bar privatization up 63/37.

That's already with 51K+ ballots counted.

Context:
did you know? a wealthy beach town in southern California now has an all-MAGA city board, and they've been going after public libraries and book access

public library advocates have organized two ballot measures to counter: it's on the ballot on JUNE 10.

Statistically “America” is its cities. But we’re stuck with an 18th century political architecture that gives votes to cornfields & thus makes it politically viable to treat them as some kind of weird tumor.
not the main issue here but i'd really appreciate it if democratic politicians spoke out in support of big-city life and culture with the same energy and reverence that all politicians have for small towns

los angeles is "real america" and so are all the other big cities the president hates

All these Congresspeople admitting that they didn’t read the bill they voted for is crazy. I worked for a legislator at the City Council level, and every element of every major law that got passed while I was there was picked apart, debated, and often changed for weeks before passage.
