Over 120 mRNA cancer trials are now at risk as the Trump admin cuts funding & tells researchers to scrub “mRNA” from grant proposals.

What started as COVID fearmongering is now derailing life-saving cancer research.

Hope remains - but scientists say time is running out.

Develop a Quiet Ego

Truly brave people never tell you how brave they are.
The most intelligent people don't tell you how smart they are.
The best athletes don't tell you how great they are.

They just know.

True confidence is quiet. Insecurity is loud

We make a fundamental mistake when it comes to leadership that creates toughness, grit, and discipline.

We tend to think it's the demanding, strict, almost authoritarian leader who creates tough teas & individuals.

They don't.

I had a front row seat to watch 18F get started a dozen years ago by some of the smartest and most dedicated public servants I’ve ever met. Their work saved countless lives, and yes, hundreds of millions, probably billions, of dollars. But just as significantly: it made government more responsive.
The work that I led at 18F I naturally feel was really important (I hope all 18Fers felt the same way about their work): codifying the procurement principals that we’d all identified there over the years. I thought this would have a tiny audience. Instead it became a foundational text.
Introduction | 18F De-risking Guide

This is sooo good! Lots of good takeaways. Stepping away from the attention machines and using that “extra” time to be curious & explore is great for mental health.
What drives us to sacrifice curiosity for the illusion of security?

It depends on how much they are lying about everything. Deepseek is good. It's open source. But they aren't transparent about the economics. At least from what I have read so far.

Would love everyone in the industry to please opine !
How long do you think before DeepSeek is banned? @mcuban.bsky.social

One way to reduce drug spend is to have the FDA do an analysis of how long medicine retains it's potency. It can do it one drug at a time.

No one should throw away medicine they shouldn't have to. Whether pharmacy or patient.

The Myth of Drug Expiration Dates
Hospitals and pharmacies are required to toss expired drugs, no matter how expensive or vital. Meanwhile the FDA has long known that many remain safe and potent for years longer.

We need a federal data privacy law now.

Or we’ll continue down the road of a piecemeal strategy of banning popular foreign apps, while the US data broker industry continues to monetize the data of all Americans, mostly without our consent or notice. #AIBillofRights
I’m concerned that Americans are flocking to a number of adversary-owned social media platforms. We still need a comprehensive and risk-based approach to assessing and mitigating the risks of foreign-owned apps.

• Fact-checking is often challenged by limited scope and reach, i.e. too few people see fact-checks. In part because platforms and media prioritise them insufficiently.
• Fact-checking is not a panacea. But it is an important instrument in a democracy where correct information is essential. [2/4]

A few facts and thoughts on fact-checking 🧵

• Fact-checking is NOT in opposition to free speech and debates. It is a significant contribution to public discourse.
• Fact-checking works. Research shows how fact-checking can affect public perceptions and contribute to corrective mechanisms. [1/4]

It’s crazy how many of these types of companies exist. I wish more people understood and were aware of how much data about them is available.
