I’ve been fascinated by leucistic/albino animals since childhood, when my grandpa told me a story of a white deer he encountered.

Here are a few I’ve found in aquaria & exhibits.

It's Gar Week! Alligator Gar are Illinois' largest fish and due to overfishing and a lack of public knowledge were functionally extinct by 1966. However, in the last few years, we have been reintroducing them!

As a resident of a river town, these fish are integral to the ecosystem. Also super cool!

Alligator #gar are an incredible fish, and one of the largest freshwater fish in North America- reaching over 6 feet long and weighing over 100 pounds. They may even reach 8+ feet and 300+ pounds!

The trip culminated in DIY alligator gar day where a “short stop” turned into an all-day pursuit of gar in canals.

After running out of food & water we landed this gar on an artificial lure. One of my favorite catches ever.

I'm a day late for the start of #GarWeek, but I thought I would share some of my old #GARtwork in celebration of these awesome fish.
