Okay, but if they "remained in power" then that suggests they weren't punished at all, right? My position is not "war criminals should face no punishment, murderers and fascists get to walk free," it's "we shouldn't give the state the power to kill people, even if those people are bad."

I think the Nuremberg trials were flawed from the outset. What was the point of killing people who had already been pretty decisively removed from power? To stop them doing it again? How would that circumstance ever come about?
