I got devastating news on Thursday. I’m broken hearted. I’m not sure what the future holds. I’m also having to rehome my dogs. So sleep is elusive. Thankfully I spent time with son, daughter & grandson yesterday. It’s my birthday now. I’m escaping to the Highlands later, to be looked after.

It’s the last night before one of my dogs goes to a new retirement home. Still awaiting a suitable home for the other. Heartbreaking decision to do the best thing for them. Sadly couldn’t find a new home for them together. Feeling a bit of a failure all round 😢

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology
She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

It has rained here for weeks, the forecast is rain for the next week too. The news globally is so depressing.
I can be grateful I don’t live under oppressive regimes or in war conditions. I really don’t know how people cope in those situations. Why can’t human beings be kind to each other?

Have just finished my first listen through of Mad in America by Robert Whitaker.
Should be compulsory reading for all mental health professionals. Very frustrating that long term medication increases the very symptoms it’s supposed to reduce. #research #evidence

I’ve realised that I seem to anticipate that the answer I give to question will raise another question and so I answer that one. Anyone else?
Is that an ADHD trait?

Got the January blues?

I typically feel such an anti climax in January.
It’s cold,
it’s dark.
There’s not much to look forward to
for some time.

So I’ve just listened to this twice in a row.

Watched my favourite film this evening. Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. Haven’t watched it in years.
Hit me hard this time, been an emotional wreck. In tears.

I did some baking this evening. I made lemon polenta cake. It’s the first time I’ve dared bake since I was diagnosed with #EoE & decided to avoid wheat & dairy. Fingers crossed it’s edible.

Wait! What?

I’m not a football fan but this is a big deal. Well done Scotland’s men’s team.
