Then hate racism!

Delighted to see so many familiar faces at the anti racism rally in Dublin today.

The recent attack at the IPAS centre in Drogheda is shocking, but not surprising. Nor is the silence from those who shout the loudest about protection of women and children.

Congratulations to Catherine Connolly who has been elected the 10th President of Ireland. We were delighted to support this campaign over the last month and her landslide win is proof of the value of a positive, united campaign.

We see plenty of homes being built in Sandyford and the wider Dublin 18 area but where are the community facilities to match?

Imaginosity is now a vacant building here in BSQ in Sandyford Business District. The council need to be acting much faster to bring it into use as a community facility.

The Taoiseach creates a false choice here. Climate Action is about making life better, making energy cheaper, making our atmosphere cleaner.
But that requires leadership. We see none from this Government.

€2.377bn for public transport vs €1.724bn for roads in #budget26 is NOT a 2:1 investment ratio for public transport infrastructure over roads as previously committed.

The Government can claim the €2bn for MetroLink more than balance that equation BUT the €2 billion was taken from the 1/2

Despite ambitious promises in their manifestos and Programme for Government, the Government parties have failed to invest adequately in childcare in this Budget cycle.

The truth is today's #budget2026 VAT cut at a cost of €700m to the taxpayer would have helped my mum's now closed restaurant only a little.

What would have helped her & so many small restaurants a lot more was a sliding VAT rate. Where the likes of McDonald's get a lot less reduction & smaller 1/2

I still can't believe that they're doing this. Giving a massive VAT tax break that'll do very little for small cafés and restaurants, while giving millions to big chains.

Weak, unfocused governance. They're too comfortable chucking out our tax money.
It's official. They're giving big restaurant chains a massive tax cut, costing nearly €700m in the #VAT cut to hospitality.

For that kind of money you could:

Over the summer, the Government raided the Climate & Nature fund to pay for gaps in their infrastructure bill. Today's Budget could have fixed that and committed new investment for nature and the environment.
Unfortunately, there has been no change in their approach. A wasted opportunity.

We fought tooth and nail for the the Residential Land Tax for a reason. We knew that it was a game-changer for delivery of new land for much needed housing.

But this #budget2026 undercuts the RZLT by bringing in loopholes to allow more and more landowners to postpone payment. 1/2

The Residential Zoned Land Tax #RZLT is essential to take land hoarders to task and ensure that our many empty sites lying idle in the country are put to use.

Government loopholes are gutting the Land Hoarding Tax. Empty sites stay empty. Hoarders keep winning.

The Land-hoarding Tax (RZLT) was introduced last year. It's been a success. 2,000 returns filed. Over €40 million eared to the State.
Why is the Government allowing another year for landowners to seek an exemption? Land zone for housing needs to be brought into use now.

On this Budget Day, let's talk about childcare spaces or the lack thereof.

The State needs to become an Early Childcare Provider while working with private providers. This was the model we had started building that this Government is squandering.

A BIG thank you to all the lovely messages & three asks:

1) Check your breasts!

2) Write to the Minister of Health to ask her to fund cancer supports & reduce waiting times.

3) Support the various breast cancer charities this Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Ireland's enviable budget surplus should be spent on essential capital infrastructure - that includes projects like DART+ and Metrolink, but also investment in public-built housing, water and energy infrastructure.

A big blanket VAT cut? It's a bad idea. Better to give smarter, more targetted supports for cafes and restaurants.

We've set out a way to give more to small businesses while spending about a third of what the government are planning.

Be smart: do more, spend less!
