Hi new followers 👋 a (re)introduction as there’s lots of you: I’m a Lecturer in Research Methods (fixed term - employ me!). I work across trans studies, queer disability studies, co-production & creative methods. I write poetry & put on a play from my research. I could post more & I'm quite boring.

Can anyone point me to any public health campaigns (ideally video) from during Covid19 which in some way say "stay apart to stay safe" or similar messaging? I know the UK ones, but I want an example from further afield (reposts appreciated)

Qualitative research isn't a consolation prize for when we can't get 'real' numbers. It's a different way of knowing; one that captures complexity, context, and meaning that statistics alone cannot provide.

An excellent resource from one of my favourite colleagues. And students on our Media Research Methods course get to hear from @kenglish.bsky.social with their lecture on questionnaires and surveys next week! (Please don’t ask me about numbers. Kirstie Ken is here for numbers. I only do words).

This is an excellent paper and brilliant contribution to queer/crip temporality scholarship. It’s also a really important confrontation with some of ways UKHE harms us. As a disabled academic it was at times a difficult read(in a good way I think). I’ll definitely read it again. Thanks for your work
Here we are then, the article I have been whining about for well over a year. Written with @robinskyer.bsky.social, our article explores failure and crip temporalities in UKHE and is published today with the Sociological Review

A Complicated Woman by Rebecca Lucy Taylor (Self Esteem) arrived in the post today. This is the very first page which says “trans women are women. Kindly shut this book if you think that is up for debate.” This will be great.

This just arrived in the post. So that’s my weekend sorted.

I actually think I might reread book 2 first. I think this follows on immediately and I don’t remember it as well as I could. It did come out 6 years ago. Anyone else thinking the same? Anyway I have high hopes for this.

In a couple of months it’ll be 30 months before the end of my 30s. I like music & chocolate. So I’m thinking I might commit to once a month having a nice bar of chocolate & listening to a full album I like for 30 months. I have some in mind but recommendations for chocolate very welcome (albums too)

Interdisciplinarity is fun because it’s something job ads in humanities HE say they want but it often feels like it actively disqualifies you (in the sense of having degrees in, and published in leading journals of, multiple distinct disciplines). Everyone believes you’re not in their discipline.

Just got my Covid and flu vaccines. The eligibility for Covid jabs has been reduced (by both NHS Scotland and NHS England) but loads of people can still get the flu jab. It was super quick and not busy at all. Get jabs pals. It’s way cooler than getting sick.

My partner just told me about tattie scone nachos & I was unimpressed. Tattie scones on crisps is too much potato! Turns out tattie scones are instead of crisps. Now I’m on board. Only read one thing on your phone today trans friends & make it this. Ruth’s writing is a gift & this essay is a little parcel of hope & possibility (wrapped in a bow of grief because it’s still a trans essay). I read it on my phone & now I’m putting my phone down. Think about how we create together
New essay: REJECT TRANS DOOM-POSTING.

It's about grief, loss, institutional failures, and the horror of the current moment.

It's also a love letter to trans community, and the things we do with and for one another.
