For some reason remembered this earlier, one of my favorite things ever
Richard Tice and Rupert Lowe are sheer Rhodesia, aren’t they? Frederick Forsyth etc. Harare airport 1978. Sweating with suitcases. Bar. ‘You *fool* Tice! We’ll owe ten million rand. They’ll cut our ears off’ ‘For Christ’s sake calm down, man. You’re a hysteric! I’d never agreed had I known’ etc

I was there that night. I still have one of the badges they were giving out at the door.

I love the fact that for his Motörhead audition in 1984 Phil Campbell arrived with three different colours of speed: white, green and pink. He got the job…

Having a lovely Karmeleit Tripel and reading Jesse Fink’s superb Bon Scott bio. Can’t say fairer than that.

Tears for Fears are such an odd band. Such 80’s faces they had. Impossible faces.

Nightmare Logic is a good example of modern-era vintage production

• Arthur Rizk used an analog approach
• inspired by RiB & ST’s Lights Camera
• vintage gear at Echo Lab studios TX
• snare based on Metal Church debut
• real amps, Marshall tubes
• 80s Boss pedals & Ibanez tube screamers

Inside The Generator, the podcast where myself, Graham Harfleet, Chris Clark and Andy Tillison voyage through the VdGG catalogue, has reached the mighty Godbluff. Like the aural equivalent of The Seventh Seal, it's dark, gothic and magnificent. Listen here from 1:02:08 progzilla.com/the-progress...

From anger, to fear; to *admiration*- and that’s genius, that - to resignation. All in the space of four seconds. What an actor.

Nick KNOWLES 'BRITAIN BIGGEST BBQ' squatting outside Clarkson farm - for *tv*- and doing *a roaring trade*. I should be in charge of telly.

I dreamt Jamie Oliver was a really high up Roman Freemason and he’d invented a ritual called RAGGIO POLPO where prospects had to eat an immense raw octopus that weighed about ten stone as he sat on a purple throne clapping and laughing and shouting ‘get it down you!’.

I’m not a huge Manics fan as I only really like the first three but, tell you what - Gold Against The Soul is a *fantastic* record. I love it! Big, beefy, daft. Sheer 1993, too. Why is it never mentioned? V.underrated.

One of the maddest things about this film is how tame the supposedly ‘dystopian’ homeless camp looks in comparison to actual 2025 LA/SF.
Now watching my 500th film this year!

They Live (1988)

I have come here to watch 500 films in a year and kick ass, and I’ve just started my 500th film.

You don’t hear proper 1980’s transatlantic accents so much these days. David Coverdale had the best.

Just wonderful.

Monkhouse: The Last Stand (2016).

So funny. *note perfect* - and mid section where he segways into anecdotes, not stand up per se- staggeringly astute/generous - about his contemporaries (Benny Hill, Peter Sellers etc).

A quiet - final - masterclass.
