The assumption that parents of autistic kids could not themselves be autistic, having achieved such an important societal milestone as finding a social connection (at least for one night), is rooted in ableist nonsense and SO frustrating!!
Paracetamol (Tylenol) does not cause autism, and it is a source of great dismay that autism researchers and Autistic advocates still have to spend so much time battling misinformation.

Research on causes of autism systematically fails to control for the existence and behaviour of Autistic parents.

There wouldn’t be an issue with increasing identification of autism and pushing to identify a “cause” if autism wasn’t viewed as a problem to begin with 👀

“It’s the registry without the word ‘registry’ in it,” said David Mandell, a professor of psychiatry and longtime autism researcher at the University of Pennsylvania.

It would improve trust if people could opt out of having their data included in the "real-world platform"/registry.
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said on Wednesday that his department would build a “real-world platform” that would allow researchers to hunt for causes of autism by examining insurance claims, electronic medical records and wearable devices like smart watches.

A1: My top priority is for senior researchers in the field to examine their own positionality, for many of them to realise that they too are autistic, to embrace this, explore what it means for themselves & our community, and then - when ready - to own it and come out publicly

Yeah, the concept of "mental age" is flawed and clinicians should not be using it. People have the lived experience of their actual age, even if they have intellectual or developmental disabilities. This term should be banned. #INSAR2025

McCormick was born in 1968. One reason he did not remember seeing people with autism at the time was autism did not have a diagnosis separate from schizophrenia in the DSM until 1980.
Rep. Rich McCormick: "I grew up in Oregon where they had great drinking water, no fluoride added, and I don't remember having any people I knew had autism."

(McCormick is also a doctor.)
