🚨 NEW REPORT 🚨

We live in divided times. Religion is often seen as the problem.

But we see it differently. RE properly understood - as lifelong learning that goes beyond the school classroom - could help us heal our fractured society.

All of Felix White's 'Whatever Will Be, Will Be' is beaut, but the chapter on watching his nephew fall in love with the game has wrecked me. Nothing makes me happier than serious football chat with mine, or more relieved than when the 'new word' he learned at the match turned out to be 'goarnstoke'.

Just seen a man buying a poppy for his dog, and without going all James McClean, I do think we need to ask ourselves what, if any, remembrance that serves.

'What’s faltering in the first place is not the willingness to raise a child but the capacity to build a life with someone.' - found this a fascinating read on how it's more complex than cheaper childcare.

I went to a lecture on staying human in the face of AI tonight, where the online platform for asking questions gave me the AI option to shorten/improve my question or ‘make it more joyful’. I cannot tell you how much I want to shut that genie back in its box and run away.

Pretty frustrated at the front page of a UK newspaper today listing the method of suicide used by Ricky Hatton. I won’t share a screen shot because we should not share details of methods. I would urge all journalists to read the excellent Samaritans guidelines

I’m at a by-election count tonight. There’s a beautiful amount of clipboards, jelly babies and good will involved in keeping the wheels of local democracy turning, and also I’d totally watch a romcom about an agent and a counter falling in love.

'Lord, you told us to love our neighbours as ourselves, but you never told us to ask where they were born or what papers they carry in their hands. You simply told us to love.' - from a clip posted on the Other Place of a priest turned away from giving communion at an ICE detention centre. Preach.

I would add Harry Hill's TV Burp to this list, otherwise 10/10 no comments.
"Progressive patriotism" doesn't have to mean po-faced panels about Diggers, Chartists, and Morris dancing.

For @renewaljournal.bsky.social, Sofie Jenkinson argues that social democrats should embrace "Mr Blobby patriotism" and stand up for "Silly Sausage Britain".

I didn't know until we buried my mother, so probably most people here don't know: Jewish cemeteries strongly recommend that you get insurance for the headstone.

Because the cemeteries are so often desecrated, the gravestones smashed.

Is there a reason I ask that the Times are using a picture of asylum seekers in a boat to describe rules for migrants who came on legal routes such as skilled worker visas for doctors?
Tough new conditions to be imposed on migrants who want to settle in the UK will not apply to more than a million people who arrived in the UK under the post-Brexit immigration surge
Labour’s tough new rules will not apply to migrants already in UK
