Sorry to learn of the passing of Ken Dryden. He was a friend of a boyfriend of mine, and they were coming to pick me up at my house. My five year old son became very quiet when I told him Ken Dryden was coming to the house. When I asked what was on his mind, he said, "My slapshot isn't very good."

Brick Magazine 115: a very popular Eleanor Wachtel hosted with good-humoured grace and read from her engaging interview with Colm Toibin. Compelling poets Farah Ghafoor and Lida Nosrati read and Greg Hollingshead did, too, with a startling take on dreams. Summer literary launches in TO? Perfect.

Happy to share that Votive has been shortlisted for both the J.M. Abraham Atlantic Poetry Award and the Maxine Tynes Nova Scotia Poetry Award. All the better to be in the good company of buddies Alice Burdick, Cory Lavender, Clare Goulet, and Bren Simmers. ✨

In the 70's anti-war Americans, supporters of Eugene McCarthy, began landing in Toronto. Academics, business people, progressives. The precursors of the flood of thousands of draft dodgers, deserters, and their immediate beloveds. Feels like déja vu in this city again.

Today’s the day, Toronto!

See you at Nathan Philipps Square this afternoon at 2 pm.

Fun Fact: I was trying to find out who designed the #ElbowsUp graphic that I love (shown below) and found out last week that it’s a former student of mine!

Danielle Smith should get deported to the USA.
Clearly she is more American than she is Canadian.
Well, Alberta’s premier seems to be knee deep in maga and chatting with Breitbart. Apparently Poilievre is “all for the new direction in America” #abpoli #cdnpoli #elbowsup

St. Gertrude's Day today! She's the patron saint of travellers, of gardeners, and most importantly, of cats. My Gracie expects me to honour St Gertrude's Day with my usual respect for all her demands.

Putting the Arctic Ocean closer to the center, this brings the Greenland Canada gambit into focus. It is a grab for power, money, water, and resources, also giving the US complete control over the Northwest Passage. Fentanyl and the border are a smokescreen for a much bigger project: theft.
