If you like posts on kids, science, and books, this is your channel. I'm a scientist turned writer. Author of the Harmonycan Chronicles. Mom. Coach.
According to the book - A common saying when a child died was, "Thank goodness the Lord thought better of it". Conditions were so harsh that the death of an infant was often regarded as a blessing. We highly recommend The family Romanov is you have a teen that likes history

I'm curious. Have any of you talked to your kids about chatbots yet? If so, how are you approaching it?

Here are the references for today's conversation:

Most will find this book offensive and frankly ridiculous by today's standard. But we thought it was a useful exercise to see what people were reading in the 1800s.
My kid was asking me the meaning of words throughout, so it's vocabulary building for the 8-12 age-range. Lexile 900L+

SoCal, where we live, is too far south to see the aurora, but the kids and I have been looking at a LOT of pics of the aurora this past week. Some day we would love to go see it in person.

It's sad when a little child understands that it's not OK to starve people, but grown adults don't.

Fantastical insects and plants definitely play a role in the book I'm currently writing - most of which are based on real-life counterparts. My kids and I love looking at science and nature photography and wanted to share some of our favorite spooky nature pics today.

Kid: Mom, there's only one night of the year that I can walk all night long.
Me: Yeah? Which night is that?
Kid: It's Halloween

While I speak Hindi and Japanese fairly fluently, I only know a handful of words of Spanish and Arabic—picked up because I've lived in Southern California for many years and in the Middle East for a few. So, if I got the Arabic and Spanish wrong, please feel free to correct me.

We haven't yet come across a book in this series we didn't like. Recommended for ages 8-15.

Buying a kindle for the boys: Great decision
Catching them reading under the blankets: Classic
They'll never know the thrill of sneaking the flashlight from the toolbox and praying it has enough juice to last you thru the chapter. coz the kids charge their kindles ahead of time. Like pros.

We wrestle with this as parents sometimes—how much is too much for a 9-year-old to know? We don’t want them to be ignorant of the world around them, but we also want to protect their sense of hope and wonder. It’s a constant balancing act between awareness and innocence. #momsky
From x, but I couldn’t get the link to work correctly so I just copied this. Although, as a child in the late ‘50s and early ‘60s, I would have been about 8 years old when I knew too much.

Even in death, she continues to inspire.
"I want you to know that whether or not you find the role that you're supposed to play, your life does matter. And that every single day that you live, you make a difference in the world. And you get to choose the difference that you make."

Another fun fact: the pink gemstone morganite you can mine from Oceanview mines is named after J.P. Morgan of JP Morgan Chase.
I should warn you that this book doesn't give you the fun facts. Only details of where to go mining.

Meaning, no matter how many times Grandma asks you the same thing, we try to remain kind and answer patiently. September 21st is World Dementia Day (also World Alzheimer's Day). There are many forms of dementia beyond Alzheimer's. Here's a list: www.alz.org/alzheimers-d...

So much of our understanding of the human body has come through the difficult process of studying those who have tragically lost a particular faculty. Here's a reference for this conversation: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29510103/
