The ACM Digital Library, where a LOT of computing-related research is published (I'd say at least 75% of my own publications), is now not only providing (without consent of the authors and without opt-in by readers) AI-generated summaries of papers, but they appear as the *default* over abstracts.

new column from me!

“The forces of work and of capital that produce genAI…are doing so intentionally. We should not be subjected to adapt to a kind of technology if it harms our ways of belonging and surviving.”

I love the confident tone of: oh, oops, my bad this time I"ll produce something "refined, highly reliable." And then not.
Hmm, really? So these were just books that *aren't published yet* instead of books that *don't exist*?

Now of course I know at this point what's happening, but for the purposes of this experiment, let's see how long it takes me to get to the truth.

Yikes. Yikes. YIKES. 📚
Let me tell you a story. Perhaps you can guess where this is going... though it does have a bit of a twist.

I was poking around Google Scholar for publications about the relationship between chatbots and wellness. Oh how useful: a systematic literature review! Let's dig into the findings. 🧵
