Happy mail day! This collab grew out of a “can you help me find newspapers” reference question on 2021! It’s free to read online for a few more days www.cambridge.org/core/element...

2. Different colors for each code! The single color limit in Taguette comes up in every workshop, I swear.

Some comparisons to Taguette, another free and OA tool that I know is popular for #qualitative folks. Note that this is based on the workshop and my brief exploration, not full use.

1. Built in analysis features, like memos, coder-comparison, codes+category system, codes x documents report

Spoiler.

I like the idea of emotion coding. Not something I'd thought about before, but it could show taken for granted assumptions that authors bring to the research process.

Last one (for today): Mapping Saldaña's popular coding techniques to analysis in the literature review.

I also really like this illustration (p. 160) of the process they recommend, including specific NVivo features that are used to structure the data (though you'd still have to know what attributes and sets are to understand why they are useful, I think).

They include an example from their own work, including inductive and deductive categories they used. (p. 184).

Some themes from the #acrl2025 presentation on supporting #qualitative inquiry in academic libraries. I love the concept of a "qualitative village" of people who support qual work for those who haven't had much experience or training.

I always enjoy imagining what the former presidents in those giant paintings would think about literal horses in the library. Or the concept of a finals event at all.

Export to RIS for a folder includes option to export PDFs. They will be in a folder for each item though.

Someone I taught a QDA class for brought me a gorgeous little notebook as thanks (not necessary of course but appreciated)…will I risk spoiling it with actual writing?

And @requal.bsky.social, a tool for text annotation with codes (uses R, runs in the browser). Similar to Taguette, but with ability to use color for different codes, and create categories in the code book. #caqdas #qualitative #qdas #academicsky

Some #qualitative tech stuff I've come across recently: Quadro, a plugin for Obsidian: github.com/chrisgrieser.... Codes are applied to paragraphs in Obsidian docs and then compiled into a new page for that code. #caqdas #qdas #qual #academicsky

I <3 this new(ish?) ability to preview full citations when using the PDF reader in @zotero.bsky.social. I've been using Zotero for ages, but have been really impressed with the development the last few years.

12yo and I have a hard time finding something to watch together but I was scrolling through shows and he yelled out “Bob Ross!!”

11yo is over thinking everything and also disturbed by Slinky Dog (who is serving as the down measurement).

Viola concert this morning because middle school starts so weirdly late here.

Results of an NVivo consultation that turned into a bigger discussion about how we even do qualitative analysis. I love these conversations!

Local grocery store anticipating critique. Not pictured is 11yo who disagrees with this sign but doesn’t want me to share the photo of him holding a pumpkin and scowling.

This library book is full of (color coded?) star stickers.

It’s a bit cooler after a sweltering week. Made apple cinnamon pancakes with the first of our local apples. Then made the mistake of looking at the weather forecast.

This wasn’t here Friday. I’m not owed an explanation for every change in the library but I’d really like to know the story behind this one.

I’m not sure I’d be a librarian without this place in my childhood. It was a little weird to see the children’s section without the garish orange shelves though. 😀
