Decision-making components and times revealed by the single-trial electro-encephalogram https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.06.25.661505v1
In this new preprint, in review @elife.bsky.social, we show what processing steps make up the reaction time using single trial #EEG modelling in a contrast #decision task.
In this 🧵 I'm telling the story behind it as I think it is quite interesting and I can't write it like this in the paper...

Interested in how we make preference-driven decisions, and how this is implemented in the brain?
We report that neural correlates of evidence accumulation (CPP, Mu/Beta) are also observed during value-based decisions.

Tracing the neural trajectories of evidence accumulation and motor preparation processes during voluntary decisions
Voluntary decisions have previously been described by where they arise in the brain and how actions corresponding to one's choice are prepared. However, the processes by which these internally guided ...

I uploaded the lecture I gave on hidden multivariate pattern methods in M/EEG at the #practicalMEEG2025 conference (wonderfully organized by @cuttingeeg.bsky.social).

Wrote a set of scripts for EEG to:
- anonymize
- adapt to BIDS (MNE-BIDS)
- preprocess (MNE)
It's tailored to the needs I identified for colleagues and towards being used with HMP of course 😬
Thus it's just one specific way but might be interesting for others?

Decoding performance (MVPA) better for OPM-MEG than SQUID-MEG 😎. The improved spatial specificity of OPM-MEG due to the reduced brain-sensor distance is key. And more sensors (beyond 40) don't improve decoding.

@willenjoy.bsky.social and I (with support from Mina Jamshidi) made a toolbox for simulating EEG/MEG data

I put together a quick simulation using it for this short clip. Took me 10 minutes (no, really!)
