this birthing ritual deck is hot garbage tbh
played out of my mind in antwerp after teching for prowess and ended up still only getting 2-3 in the main event with a 0-2 start. lost to prowess in 5th round bc even after endurancing him 3 times he still had the nut draw of double cutter for lethal 😂

Mono-red aggro has remained tier 0 or 1 through metas where it had 3 drops like rampaging ferocidon, goblin chainwhirler, squee dubious monarch, goddric and now screaming nemesis. The deck is always the most broken thing in standard and just eats bans by being the most accessible archetype.

can't complain with the bans here in standard. nemesis is a "fair" card that is a part of standards problem with threats running away with the game and not being easy to answer, especially for newer players, which i think is their main target audience with the format right now

Magic: The Gathering shares similarities with Weiß Schwarz than it does with Fortnite when it comes to reusing assets from IPs as game pieces (not to mention the strict licensing agreements that come with it).
Someone in the #mtgjp community pointed out that a Weiß Schwarz card uses the EXACT same art of Toph; reinforces my theory.

Magic situation is getting so intense that even Hearthstone streamers are commenting on it.
In retrospect I think there should also be an understanding that this was the only outcome for magic. “slop” is a term that can be applied to the majority of mainstream entertainment right now. When there's a significant amount of money to be earned from EDH & UB, why would magic be any different?
Its nice to say "dont engage with these changes if you don't like it" but that narrative doesnt work when Wizards are actively refusing to funnel resources into aspects of the game that need them (player attendance, accessibility, judge programs etc) and choosing to make more product instead bc $$$

If i were to make a hierarchy of Magic players I respect the most/think are most crucial to the game at the very top would be people who go to FNM every week but have never touched a meta deck in their entire life.

As someone who used to play commander regularly it's crazy to me hearing commander players talking about the game like they are actively engaging in it in a way that isn't almost exclusively just handing over their wallet to wizards & co (🧵)

really wish i had time to go stream the #PTEOE stream live bc between the super fun and deep formats (limited AND constructed both being great), awesome coverage and everything in between, from what i did get the chance to see it seemed like a phenomenal thing to watch live. magic at its best!

Nah man a big part of why the UB stuff makes me sad is cause I know it's extremely popular so they're going to keep doing it despite it making the parts of the game I deeply care about worse. Like I know a bunch of people are going to buy the 6th marvel set but that doesn't make my FNM fire.
Hearing the conversations around the con, I think heavily enfranchised online folks significantly overestimate how much their opinions on Universes Beyond are shared by the wider player base.
This is not a value judgment of any opinion in particular: just being reminded of that myself, too.
