i heard some rumors that jace after recent events was going to enact some kind of planar chaos-style event on the plane and switching the color pie of the factions (could still be true!) but I'm personally glad they chose to stick to their guns, at least with regard to this set

with how the plane functions i think it would be very difficult to add new factions without breaking it entirely or making them much weaker than the rest in the narrative (allied pairs exist but are seen as otherworldly/alien/forbidden and because of that are much rarer)

a rake of the irish contingent scrubbed out (even the cracked players) but tbh its been a great time jamming games (and slamming beers 😂). ive yet to have a bad experience at the RCs. all my games were enjoyable and there were good vibes all around. looking forward to many more of these events! 🍻

i had a feeling i wouldn't succeed as much this time bc of how difficult the format is over tricky in general (absurdly tight games, the slightest mistake means in a loss) but it's nice to know how my deck choice anxiety set me up for failure, and a good thing to consider going forward i think

its funny too bc i think after testing belcher i decided that stock ish ritual was better into a titan-heavy metagame (still the best deck btw) but in hindsight in a much more open metagame like what we're seeing now modern looks like a format that rewards experience and innovation above everything

borrowed affinity for the sunday event (little better going 4-3 drop). one of my opponents was on ritual but this time teching for affinity with 3x culling ritual 2x FoV but he still lost post board after answering turn 1 emissary but died to emry plus emissary num 2 plus rebuke protection 🤷‍♂️

hopefully there'll be a good shrines deck that can help fit that niche. they seem powerful with the duskmourn eerie cards at least

in an ideal world we might have seen some unbans from the uncommons, esp from the cards that will still be around post rotation. largely in part because i think some of them were laughably bad and in part because i think a key part in letting new players do powerful things for very little investment

a ban from a second deck in the tier one/two range (dimir, control) is just begging people to stop investing in the format when nothing powerful is ever worth keeping around for the sake of players who are quite happy to drop the format when it doesn't immediately suit them

aspiring spike is on hiatus rn but he's p much everyone's go-to content creator for the more casual side of modern. the format's very deep so he does a great job at showcasing decks that synergise very well with cards from the newer sets and how they can beat the more tiered decks
