The agents asked no questions and showed no identification before taking one man away, whose wife and child were inside at the time…”

In the decade since Obergefell made same-sex marriage the law of the land, public opinion continues to shift in favor of same-sex marriage.

Newsom: "Think about the state of mind of the VP. How do you square the circle when you go to a prayer breakfast? Old testament, new testament. What's the fundamental thing that connects John to Matthew to Proverbs? It's this notion of hunger, feeding the poor. It's central to advancing God's will."

This is really good to see: Miki Sherrill just put out a statement sharply criticizing the Senate Dems' pending cave in the government shutdown, ripping it as "malpractice" and a betrayal of the people who are "counting on us to fight for them." Sherrill knows what drove her victory. Wake up, Dems.

The Agriculture Department also demands that states “immediately undo” any steps they have taken to send full November payments to recipients of the food assistance program, referred to as food stamps...

The last month of the anti-Mamdani campaign was an absolutely shameful undertaking, an attempt to rip the city and Democratic coalition apart and I'm very happy to see it failed.

A pro-affordability, anti-Trump-corruption message unites the party. Every candidate can run on that, and every candidate can have their own take to fit that to their constituents. There's really no need to find fights to pick when the party agrees on more than it disagrees
Came here to say this, but Jamelle Bouie has this covered. 👇
When the Democratic tent includes candidates like Spanberger and Mamdani, there is no crisis, or fight, for the party. IT’S A COALITION, NOT A POINT ESTIMATE.
i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist

A victory for religious freedom!
Ghazala Hashmi (D) has been elected Lt. Governor of Virginia, the first Muslim American to be elected to any statewide office at lieutenant governor and above.

These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.

score one for "the pundits are projecting their own preoccupations onto the electorate"
Earle-Sears ran what felt like 12 billion ads about how much she hated trans kids and I didn’t hear a single pundit say she should stick to real issues that affect real people.

Congratulations to Virginia governor-elect Abigail Spanberger, who will be the first woman to hold the state's highest office. Virginians are clear—they want a governor who will fight back against Trump's chaos and ensure they can afford everyday essentials.

Praise be to God!
Dem. Abigail Spanberger wins VA governor race. GOP nominee Winsome Earle-Sears had framed her campaign as spiritual battle against God's enemies (www.youtube.com/shorts/BbQt9...). That didn't work out!

The anti-trans attacks seem to have failed in Virginia.

Virginia was the ground zero after Youngkin won on a fledgeling anti-trans platform in 2021.

Religious bigotry is certainly a current throughout US history, but the dominant narrative is one of an expanding realization of religious freedom for ALL — the founding promise of the United States.
The irony is that a century ago, the exact same kind of religious bigotry that Cuomo’s embraced down the stretch — we can’t elect someone from that faith or they’ll impose it on all of us! — was aimed squarely at Catholics like Cuomo.
Boy Mamdani's race is really a vivid reminder that anti-Islamic bigotry is 100% accepted in US public discourse. People don't even bother dog whistling, it's just right out in the open.
