You’ve probably heard this claim: Climate’s always changing!

It's true, Earth’s climate has changed before. But not this fast, and not for this reason.

It's hard to comprehend, but fueling a bike ride with calories only from beef emits more co2 than a drive of the same distance in a pickup truck. My students are using this as a phenomena to explore energy loss between trophic levels. #ngss #scienceteacher #iteachbio

Today my students are thinking about how we balance our cultural wants and needs with the stark reality of our diet choices. They are making a recommendation based on the data, and then revising their answers after the protein sources are revealed #NGSS #Bio #climate

29. Electrification of transport is far better than biofuels; solar plants can run an electric car on a small fraction of the land used to grow fuel to run a biofuel car.

The “E-Bike Effect:” Those who bought e-bikes increased their average daily bicycle use from 2.1km (1.3 miles) to 9.2km (5.7 miles), a 340% increase. The e-bike share of all their transportation increased dramatically too; from 17% to 49%.

E-bikes support fewer car trips.

There’s an inconvenient truth: meat that is “better” in some aspects — like animal welfare and soil health — can be worse for climate emissions.

Our community organized and mobilized, crematoriums are now not allowed in our town. I am grateful to the community members who first sounded the alarm on this
Spending too much energy opposing a pet crematorium 200' from my kids elementary school. Our town board punted tonight and didn't make a ruling. NBC NY will be covering the story tonight www.letkidsbreathe.com

This is more important than Tylenol!
For the last several months, I've been digging through endless scientific literature on what happens when pregnant mothers are exposed to plastic chemicals in their food, water, and everyday household products.

The result is this story.

I hope you'll take the time to read.

1/x 🧵 🔌💡 #Greensky. Hey climate peeps! Here’s a local victory to celebrate, and some lessons from it. Last night, the Town of Poughkeepsie, NY, voted to overturn its 18-month moratorium (6 months, renewed twice) on grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS).

Ethanol in gas is an environmental disaster
@douglewin.bsky.social:
"One acre of corn for ethanol = 25,000 miles in a Ford F-150.
One acre of solar = 700,000 miles in an F-150 Lightning.

That’s the scale of possibility Bill McKibben laid out on the Energy Capital Podcast."
