Writing about things I read and watch because somebody, somewhere might care.

Knows entirely too much about the history of Winnipeg movie houses.

I follow whatever and whoever interests me.

RULES OF BLUESKY
1. Follow people who post things that interest you.

5. If you want to debate, go somewhere else.
It’s winter 1978, and my parents lose me in a Safeway because I can’t believe Marvel has a gender-flipped version of Wonder Woman.

It’s July 1984 and I’m stuck in a car on a road trip, reading WEST COAST AVENGERS #2 while my parents scream at each other.

It’s 2026 and I turn on the TV…

She’s going to rightfully be remembered for so many things, (Schitt’s Creek, Beetlejuice, Home Alone, the Guest movies), but please don’t forget she was funny as hell from the jump on SCTV. Lola Heatherton alone is comedy gold if you’re familiar with the self congratulatory pseudo celebs of the era.

1979.

Catherine O'Hara and Rick Moranis worked together for the first time on a CBC satire of talk radio.

It was written by Elaine Pope who later won an Emmy for an episode of Seinfeld she wrote with her writing partner Larry Charles.

I am watching very few movies this month, a sign that I’m really digging into my vintage TV collection.

A reminder that my stars refer to the objective quality of a film, not necessarily my enjoyment of said film (SKATETOWN USA was a blast!)

WOJECK is a 1965 CBC drama starring John Vernon as a crusading coroner. And it is absolutely incredible.

No spoilers, but this show dealt with subjects that are still controversial sixty years later. And they did it first.

Highest possible recommendation.

If you have to say “it is obvious” multiple times in a statement, guess what?

It isn’t obvious to anyone except you.

I'm washing windows, baby
On the penthouse of love
And the view is getting clearer
From the heavens above
Your kisses send me higher
Your rejection makes me fall
And the last thing that you'll hear from me is one great SPLAT!

Two movies I enjoyed, two I felt nothing. Not bad, not good, but meh.

The rest of my “August 27, 1980” bucket list promises to be a drag. I’ve been putting off THE BLUE LAGOON for ages.

As usual, Andrew puts it better than I ever could.
I used to have a Sunday panel from Dilbert on my desk in the 1990s about one of the advantages of being stupid is that complex problems become simple, with the dinosaur saying "If people are starving in Africa, they should move to France."

And the dude who made that strip fell for THAT SAME BS.

What's your #ChildhoodCinema?

As anyone who knows me can attest, there are several possible answers. Is it the Starlite Drive-In, where I saw many movies, all age-inappropriate?
