happy #fossilfriday! this is callichimaera, a crab from the cretaceous of colombia and the united states. despite possessing several juvenile traits, other features indicate that the specimens were adults, retaining larval features into adulthood via heterochrony

Happy belated heavenly birthday to one of the many great Termite Terrace directors, especially in the 40s, Frank "Tish Tash" Tashlin. A high school dropout but was hired by Leon Schlesinger in 1936. He quit in 1938 after a dispute, returned in 1942 and left again in 1944. #LooneyTunes

A sloth for the day: Xibalbaonyx oviceps from Pleistocene Quintana Roo, México 🇲🇽!

Their name means “Sheep-headed Xibalba Claw [from the underworld]”, referring to its skull shape apparently resembling that of a sheep and it being found from a cenote.

SATURDAY, NOON PACIFIC
So begins Chapter 2 of the Kremling Kronology, and so ends the story of Crocodile Isle.
I'll be reading DKC2's instruction manual, playing the full game, and looking at in-game text I haven't read in like 25 years!

In which I provide a few thoughts on the new Spinosaurus species, S. mirabilis.

I also stressed the deep connections between one of the study authors - Nathan Myhrvold - and Geoffrey Epstein to New Scientist. They didn't mention it, neither has anyone else.
New fossils may settle debate over mysterious sail-backed spinosaurs
Spinosaurs have sometimes been portrayed as swimmers or divers, but a new species of these dinosaurs bolsters the idea that they were more like gigantic herons

I can finally post this...
A VERY long time ago, when photos of the skull of what is now known as #SpinosaurusMirabilis was first leaked online, I drew whatever this is...
Definitely not the most 'scientific' reconstruction, but I certainly enjoyed myself when I created this!

s. mirabilis' postcranial morphology - such as a longer tibia when compared with the type species - could indicate that this species was a shoreline piscivore, a wader that sereno et al. compare to herons
