This is as bad as anything proposed by Reform.

Leaving refugees in permanent limbo and unable to build a new life in the UK would be a complete abdication of our humanitarian responsibilities

UK set to limit refugees to temporary stays
Shabana Mahmood is expected to say the era of permanent protection for refugees is over, in major changes to the UK's asylum and immigration system.

But more to the point - offering asylum to people fleeing war or torture or persecution is what decent nations do. It's what defines us. Without that it's just a race to the bottom.

Without asylum:

Marks and Spencer wouldn't exist

Queen would have been without a front man

The other queen wouldn't have had a husband

Judith Kerr would never have written The Tiger Who Came to Tea

And thousands of less famous people wouldn't have been teachers, politicians, neighbours, etc

Voters want both: homes built and wildlife protected.

MPs should listen to the public, not a false "nature vs growth" narrative.

If nature loses at this stage, it will be because they chose not to protect it.

Tell your MP to back nature: action.rspb.org.uk/page/180990/... 📢
Help stop the Planning and Infrastructure Bill tearing up nature protections
I've just emailed my MP and asked them to vote to protect nature in the Planning and Infrastructure Bill. Will you take action too?

He wants a US-style insurance based system where the Wealthy get diamond quality health care while millions go bankrupt to pay for care or even die due to not being able to afford care.

Anyone who thinks Farage is on their side is exceptionally naive.

Dave Calfe has been elected as the new General Secretary of ASLEF.

Congratulations to Dave Calfe . Commiserations to Simon Weller, tough times ahead but I have great confidence in the leadership of our union.

Also sincere gratitude to our outgoing G.S. Mick Whelan, welcome to the RMS.

BBC News bulletins leading on the story of an Algerian man being mistakenly released by the prison service.

Funnily enough I don't remember these cases ever leading the bulletins when an average of ten prisoners were mistakenly released a month in the final year of the last Government

The government’s new Railways Bill, tabled today in the House of Commons, sets Great British Railways up to fail and passengers to be disappointed.

👀Take a look at our response to the Bill.
3 ways the government's Railways Bill fails passengers
The Railways Bill is an opportunity to deliver a railway that works for passengers, not profit. The bill is currently failing to deliver that.

The cost of winter fuel payments is £3bn a year. The profits of the big four gas supply giants in 2023 were £65bn. It's hard to see any obvious policy conclusions here, but I'm sure top economists are working on the problem.

Let's be generous and allow Prince Andrew to keep a rent-free bedroom at the Royal Lodge. But the other 29 bedrooms would be perfect for asylum seekers.
