Unions are crystal clear - the New Deal was a Manifesto commitment, and must be delivered in full. That means passing the Employment Rights Bill intact, and ensuring it is implemented robustly - so the rights deliver on the promise made to voters.

The votes are in: MPs have REJECTED the Conservative and Liberal Democrat attempts to water down Labour's landmark Employment Rights Bill.

Time for the Lords to get out of the way, so the Government can deliver on their manifesto commitment to implement a New Deal for Working People in full.

So what happened with the Big Votes in the Lords on the Employment Rights Bill?

Unelected Tory and Lib Dem Lords passed amendments that undermine Labour's Manifesto - on Day 1 rights, Guaranteed Hours and Repealing the TU Act

Over to MPs now, to stand up for workers & their mandate from the public
October 29, 2025 at 3:52 PM
Tory and Lib Dem Lords have voted to SCRAP Labour's new protections against being unfairly sacked from day one, meaning workers must wait 6 months for this to happen.

But this isn't over. When the Employment Rights Bill returns to the Commons, MPs can safeguard day one unfair dismissal protections.
October 28, 2025 at 6:22 PM
They’re back at it again - the Tories and Lib Dems have worked hand in hand in the Lords to smash loopholes in Labour’s right for everyone to have a guaranteed hours contract.

They're siding with bad bosses over workers. Now over to the Commons to make sure working people get the rights they need.

Big day today, as the Employment Rights Bill is back in the House of Lords.

Last time, Tory and Lib Dem peers backed bad bosses, to undermine key new rights in the Bill. MPs in the Commons sent their amendments packing, and now we’re back for round two…..

This is why they call it PING PONG.
