Outstanding news - Meanjin lives! Hopefully this is an end to this shameful episode. Fitting too that it’s going back home to its namesake.

2) the whole thing seems to have been spearheaded by jill zarin, who, sure, in her heyday was great tv but idk she's been too loudly anti mamdani and pro genocide for me to overlook

What is being ‘normalised’ through politics and media is abhorrent and dangerous.

Beware the new 'normal', it might be about to bite us
Some people just like power. Those same people enjoy sowing seeds of discord that they never have to actually solve, in order to keep it.

The most social cohesion I have seen in my life are at events supporting Indigenous people.

Men, women, trans, non-binary, religious and proudly displaying symbols of their religion, atheist, Greek, Asian, English, Sudanese, Australian, etc, old, young, between, and able bodied and disabled people.

the role of the media class in enforcing the notion that the oppressed are supposed to be decorous when faced with injustice, brutality and persecution is so fkn sickening
Those being oppressed do not, in fact, have equal obligations to their oppressors. That is the most elementary distinction between the two: the awful disparity in power.
This is from the NYT masthead editorial about the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. The highlighted line invalidates not just the editorial, but the very idea of newspaper editorials crafted by the consensus of a board. Better to publish nothing at all than to publish a line like this.

one of my ugliest traits is despite there being far more severe egregiousness marring our days here on earth, I still get very very annoyed when I see the word “of” typed out where it should be “have”
