Bookworm, beach bum, treehugger, horse girl, water baby, distance runner, exvangelical. Oh, and I wrote a book! How to Leave the Church is out now from Apocryphile Press: https://books2read.com/leavechurch

For my last day of #20bookchallenge, I'm posting my own book! If you're curious about the #exvangelical experience or are one yourself, please check out my story! It's a blend of memoir and self-help--light on the bitter, high on the hope. Thank you for reading and sharing! Link in bio 💙📚 #booksky
Apart from some subtle (or in one instance, not subtle at all) authorial bias creeping into the writing, I'm grateful to have read this book and recommend it--just don't consider it the whole story.

There’s so much out there about the lasting harms of purity culture when it comes to one’s relationship to sexuality, but I’m starting to realize being raised with the prosperity gospel fucked me up just as badly when it comes to my relationship to money

Picked this one up used at a local indie bookstore. Not a life-changer, but I always try to remember what an incredible thing it is for someone to have written a book.

Given the literal definition of deportation is removing a foreigner or noncitizen from the country, we - journalists, media orgs - should probably all stop referring to the ‘deportation’ of a 2 year old US citizen. It’s NOT a deportation.

I’m not sure what it is. A kidnapping?

You guys don’t need to try to convince me that any form of AI has merit. It doesn’t. It is boring and half-assed. I am fine getting by with human brain power. If the world nears its end and AI has one hater left, good news! I am still alive.

My fellow eldest daughters raised in scary/unsafe homes who are trying to break cycles, I want to celebrate what a big difference we made for our siblings. How much work we did for them that maybe we didn’t even realize we were doing. What a blessing we were, even as we craved our own protectors.

One of the best things I ever learned in school—from my 7th grade civics teacher who was a white dude, go figure—was that we allll have biases & the only way to weed them out is to name them. You’re already on the train—inaction is complicity.

The thing about so-called generative artificial intelligence is, the intelligence isn't artificial. It's real. It's OURS. The techbros stole our intelligence (our data, our thoughts, our stories, our art) and used the software to regurgitate it and spackle it together into digital particleboard.
