New blog alert: I like running, and I like gaming. Here’s my new outlet for thinking about both: onemorerun.blog

If you like one of those things, I think you’ll like it. If you like both, we should be besties.
running is a roguelite - one more run
Insofar as I believe in the distinction between a roguelike and a roguelite, running, as a sport, is a roguelite. Briefly speaking, both for the well-versed and under-versed, a roguelike...

ICYMI: I make the case for actually fighting every battle in DQVII. Ease doesn’t mean boredom, and I use running training methods to prove it.
Just because something is easy doesn't mean your focus on it isn't rewarding. Here's me on why you shouldn't play Dragon Quest VII Reimagined on autopilot, like focusing on form even when the exercise isn't demanding.
autopilot + dragon quest vii reimagined - one more run
This week, I read a lot of reviews/posts/ephemera on Dragon Quest VII Reimagined that likened it to an idle game. I’m not going to say that the comparison isn’t fair....

I’ve been playing Dragon Quest V for the first time, and the fact that it’s (thus far) trivially easy and nothing really happens in the story is the entire point for me. It’s a warm glass of milk before bed.

Hey! I've got a piece up on @gamesradarplus.bsky.social about @square-enix-games.com's Dragon Quest VII Reimagined and how Clair Obscur didn't save turn-based RPGs because they didn't need saving in the first place.
In Clair Obscur's wake, Dragon Quest 7 finally has its chance to shine
Opinion | Once the black sheep of the Dragon Quest series, DQ7 is back to prove JRPGs never needed saving in the first place

Sure hope eating all this spicy bean dip I made doesn’t have any deleterious effects on my running, a sport not at all known for making your stomach take revenge on you.

I don’t want to read a book “written” in a day. That’s gonna be a bad book.

I wonder if Elon plays Dragon Quest, and if he does, whether he could grok the subtle lessons of the automaton chapter.

The Year of Bibinba
A 1994 Japanese Nintendo catalog included a sample image to illustrate the capabilities of Mario Paint that depicts "KOOPA'S WIFE BIBINBA". While the character is likely not canon, her name is based on a discarded name for Bowser, so it may have been drawn by a Nintendo employee.

On the one hand, my wife is beautiful, and I’m happy she’s having a great time at a dog café.

On the other, I am immensely jealous that I am not also at said dog café.

I love when the dog wakes me up at 4:30 then goes blissfully back to sleep, while I start my day after 30 minutes of failing to fall back asleep. Her snoring taunts me. Her bliss, my agony.
