I'm so honored to contribute a chapter to "Rituals of Migration"! My chapter examines how the Irish poor became deportable upon entering public almshouses in the US and Britain in the 19th century. Admission into almshouses served as a ritual for forced exit from the country. @nyupress.bsky.social
