A 300-pound Asian elephant calf was born at the National Zoo early Monday, the zoo announced.

The calf, a female, is the first elephant to be born at the zoo in almost 25 years, and only the third born there in the zoo’s 136-year history. https://wapo.st/49X44LH

Yet another reason to never drink raw milk. You can get much more from raw milk than Listeria. Tuberculosis and Brucellosis are just two other killers in raw milk.
A newborn baby has died in New Mexico from a Listeria infection that state health officials say was likely contracted from raw (unpasteurized) milk that the baby’s mother drank during pregnancy.
Newborn dies after mother drinks raw milk during pregnancy
Raw milk is promoted by anti-vaccine Health Secretary Kennedy.

Yet another over hyped food article about trends that just don't exist on any meaningful scale.

Are these guys--& they are always guys--eating hamburgers on their "beef days"? That would be sustainable rather than steak or roast.

This Day in Labor History: January 28, 1932. Wisconsin governor Philip LaFollette signed his state’s pioneering unemployment compensation legislation, making that state the first in the nation to create such a law. This was not a great law, but it was a start to help the unemployed!

Chinese food was very ingrained in American restaurant culture by the 1910s. The railway pushed Chinese cuisine eastward. There were even Chinese restaurants in small towns where railroad workers settled after the line was completed. I❤️ this image.

We are observers, not protestors. We show up to document and film the atrocities ICE is committing. Using 5 year olds as bait. Kidnapping senior citizens. Breaking down doors without warrants. Murdering poets and nurses. Media has all of that information because *observers* were there to document it

Almost 256 years ago, when British soldiers were occupying a city that was restless in their presence but still firmly part of the empire, a confrontation ended in the shooting death of five people, with 6 more wounded. This offset image of the Boston Massacre is so evocative. 1/
