Just released BeebEm 4.21. This fixes a bug with the tape sound emulation introduced in 4.20, another bug in the installer, and makes some improvements to the VIA emulation.

Found out today that by using millisecond pulsars as your reference points, you can determine your position in the galaxy down to 7km or less, which is frankly a ridiculous degree of accuracy on the cosmic scale #PSETI2025

It’s fun because if there’s an author who got AI exactly right, it’s Adams with the various Sirius Cybernetics Corporation devices. In his books AI is invariably a useless annoyance that is painful to interact with and everyone tries their best to avoid.

It took me far too long today to get my Arduino LCD display to show what I wanted. The link in the LcdBarGraph repository no longer works, the reference page is empty, and there is no actual explanation of the function in the repo, so I just ended up reading the sourcecode to see how to use it.

The one thing I think the BBC Micro should have had was 16 colours instead of 8 colours and 8 flashing colours. Whilst the machine was more expensive, I think having a better palette would have made a big difference. You can solve this by replacing the video ULA now: beebwiki.mdfs.net/Video_ULA
