Now, rarely my place to do posts like this, but Mary Beard's videos sent me down a rabbit hole. I ended up obsessed with Scipio Barbatus, his tomb on the Via Appia, but most fascinating of it all a gold ring! With a pope involved, lol. (1/5) #AncientBlueSky #AncientRome #Classics #History

I didn’t want to overreact, and took time to read this. Having done so, I’m adding Northwestern to the list of places I won’t visit or speak. The concessions re: international students and gender-affirming care are not merely symbolic.
Here’s the text of the Northwestern settlement with the DoJ, which includes a $75 million financial component / payoff (cc @profmarkovic.bsky.social):

Ancient Gujarati artisans were incredibly accomplished. Enjoying this new article by Pallavi Mohanan on the Carnelian trade between India, Eurasia, & the Mediterranean. Fun fact that Romans believed Carnelian helped blood 🩸 related diseases when used with magic or rings.

An intentionally destroyed #BronzeAge #sword found in a burial at Blaubeuren-Asch. Bronze Age weapons deposited in burials were often bent or hacked into pieces before placed into the grave, in this way they 'died' with the owner. Dating 9th century BC.
