This. Make it make sense.
Texas can't adequately warn people about deadly floods, but it can immediately let me know that a cop got hurt 250 miles away from me.

If you’re familiar with who Ed Martin is, you know this is very, very bad.
BREAKING WAPO:

Interim U.S. Attorney Ed Martin just announced the dismissal of roughly 30 federal prosecutors who worked on Capitol riot cases in the D.C. office over the past four years.

Notifications went out at about 5 p.m. on Friday. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

Burden made news last week when, ahead of TX House speaker race, he declared “jurisdiction over the affairs of men.” See @robertdownen.bsky.social piece www.texastribune.org/2025/01/15/t...

Excellent thread about what took place at the Texas state Capitol yesterday. Brandon Burden of Kingdom Life Church in Frisco, Texas might sound familiar to some. Google him if not. He did run for Frisco City Council back in 2017 I believe, but lost in a runoff to current Councilman John Keating.
I've argued that, in the Trump era, charismatic (i.e. ecstatic, supernaturalist, revivalist) evangelicals have displaced the old guard of the relig right & brought a new more aggressive evang'l politics. That was on vivid display in TX today. 1/ h/t @robertdownen.bsky.social

So many roads lead back to H.L. Hunt. His children & grandchildren continue to fund/support questionable causes/candidates as a way to promote themselves & their conservative/christian vision for the country still today.
Thanks in part to the work of America's wealthiest man and prolific right wing propagandist H.L. Hunt, corporate America adopted the "Jefferson prayer" as a way to promote themselves and their conservative vision of the country, paying for ads all over the country reprinting the "Jefferson prayer."

I did a bit of newspaper research on the prayer that Mike Johnson falsely ascribed to Thomas Jefferson on the floor of the House of Representatives yesterday. The story of how that prayer came to be inaccurately associated with Jefferson and then became a meme is pretty wild.
This is the earliest attribution of that prayer to Jefferson that I've come across so far. It's from a 1953 publication of a Christian Identity publication (Christian Identity is an explicitly white supremacist and antisemitic theology). www.google.com/books/editio...

It came from a vigilante with a tumultuous past, who'd conducted a years-long undercover operation. He didn’t tell the FBI or his family. He only told me.

Excellent read.

Fun fact: 2 orgs mentioned in this piece - one a defunct MLM & the other a Christian “non-profit” that recently merged with Family Policy Alliance - were both founded in North Texas.

Probably not a coincidence.

Pat Fallon made his political rise through Frisco TX. Aside from his military service which I can appreciate, he’s been an embarrassment to Texas from the beginning.
