My 90 yo dad went to an “authors & activism” event recently (already pretty cool), then sent me the program so I could see what he saw and liked <3. He’s one of few people I know who’s gotten more woke and left-leaning with age. #oldwoke #aginggracefully #authorsandactivism @authorsguild.org

Took me a min to read Maggie Millner’s gr8 piece in @yalereview.bsky.social, but I’d noted the defensive IG comments when it appeared, which show the lightning speed w which lyric shame circulates. So chuffed she used my work so subtly!! yalereview.org/article/mill... “Is Mary Oliver Embarrassing?”

A reckoning with Mary Oliver’s reputation as an unserious poet explores how her best work has been misunderstood.

seriously, please- someone help me understand why in a world literally running out of water, universities are so pumped about their AI investments. All I see is so so info and mundane task mastery, outsourcing of human labor, and deepfakes.

Congratulations to SUNY Faculty Senate for passing their mutual defense resolution! It's linked below. That makes 14 university/college senates nationwide:

Rutgers
Nebraska
Indiana
Michigan State
Michigan
Ohio State
Washington
Maryland
Minnesota
UMass
Hunter
City College
Hostos
SUNY
Along with Rutgers' resolution, UMass Amherst's provided many of the ideas and language for the SUNY University Faculty Senate resolution that was approved yesterday! (And may be posted as soon as tonight, along with the 8 others we passed yesterday.)

Umm, I don’t see this mentioned in any national news outlets… but the historic Clayborn Temple in Memphis, the site of MLK’s “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech, burned down this morning. My sadness is immeasurable. www.fox13memphis.com/news/watch-h...

Dear @sanders.senate.gov and @aoc.bsky.social and @democrats.org We should be talking back to tariff discourse, which many red and blue workers are getting behind, by talking about outsourcing and automation that only serves billionaires’ bottom lines www.demandsage.com/outsourcing-....

My colleague Ben Robinson is the first IU faculty member to be investigated under SEA 202, the law that mandates faculty can be fired for the appearance of “political bias,” which ofc in this context means left wing opinions the administration does not like. 1/4

i find this to perfectly illustrate the vibe of now: expertise and particularity count for nothing, profit and use are everything— seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil, etc, getting and spending we lay waste our powers, yadda yadda yadda - whatEVER
#TodayInBooks Zuckerberg & Meta say the books they stole from us are worthless anyway. How d'you feel about that, writers, authors, publishers, editors, book people? Personally I wish Zuckerberg the worst outcome possible. 📚📚📚 Subscribe to this newsletter, good people, bc it is marvelous. 💙 📖 🏛️
