HTS does not have popular legitimacy in Syria. It doesn’t even have popular legitimacy in Idlib and there have been numerous protests against them there. The fact that ppl supported them getting rid of a brutal dictatorship does not mean everyone suddenly became fans.

Syrian cities are being liberated from the Assad regime's rule, and so too are inmates from regime prisons. Hundreds of thousands have passed through these prisons, and tens of thousands have been killed within their walls. Here the IPM explains the background.
