There's a danger of overstating the challenge. Russia is a small economy, its population is ageing fast, and Ukraine is willingly destroying its army for us. This is not a WW2 or empire level challenge for Europe. Just containment of Russia.
The peace dividend is over. Europe needs a rapid rise in defence spending.
That's a tragedy. Money spent on instruments of death cannot be spent on the means of life: art, schools, childcare, housing.
It will change radically what progressive govts can do. But without it,everything else is at risk
