This is an extremely good strategy. Just post-election I had an emergency "how do we go on" workshop for therapists, and we talked a lot about how just Doing A Thing (sew on a button! empty the trash!) and small helping acts can help counteract negative rumination and despair. #TherapistSky
My stupidest trick that still works is that if I feel depressed and overwhelmed and powerless, I find someone with an open GoFundMe and send them between ten and twenty dollars. It's obviously not life-saving, but I have had a concrete and measurable positive impact on someone else's day.

On an AA flight that landed at JFK waiting for a gate. Two littles were crying because of their ear pain on landing. After a couple minutes the flight attendant started singing *Twinkle Twinkle little star’, the entire plane joined in, the kids stopped crying, and this is the world I wanna live in.

I keep reading that this is a place for kinder people, but gentle souls have always been among us. We just couldn’t hear them anymore. Perhaps our gathering here is proof that we missed those voices. What a wonderful thing to believe about ourselves. It can be a bold move to choose kindness.
