How much pollution do these space tourism flight cause? How many kids will starve as a result of such self-indulgent hyper-consumption? Disappointed that Society celebrates this behavior.

I know this is extremely vulgar idealism, but I do think we should try to aggressively reassert the norm that lying is bad. Not in a "Four Pinnochios" fact-checking kind of way, but in a way that frames this kind of lying as moral degeneracy that is fundamentally corrosive to the human spirit.
Elon Musk says "10% of federal expenditures" are due to people having fake Social Security numbers, claiming it is "half a trillion dollars."

I am talking change in values about how we encourage and celebrate consumption. Does social science say we can't change our behavior? If so, it's over. Values must change. The challenge is how to catalyze that in a way that will be embraced and reinforce other movement towards sustainability.

Does anyone else feel despair? It's bone dry here in Phoenix. What is usually green is dead. January temps were more than 5 degrees above average. I feel the pain of creation.

The chaos now erupting is stunning evidence that ours is a world of complexity. Disruptive actions are magnified across ever-increasing scales. Unintended consequences, of unknowable magnitude, always dominate. Simple-minded, reality denying programs are a lethal danger to us all.

Ours is a world of complexity and unintended consequences. There is nothing more dangerous than a simple minded approach — the Trumpian solution.

US Presidents have too much power and are in office too long. A lot more happens over the course of four years than back in the 1700s, when our constitution was drafted (before the industrial revolution). Parliamentary systems can get rid of dysfunctional leaders far easier and more quickly.
