If you're going to Notting Hill Carnival please come and say hi. I've made five Jonkonnu costumes (a Jamaican folk tradition similar to Mummers or Guisers) which will be part of performances in the new Lin Kam Art Wellness space. It will be much more chill in there than regular carnival.

Text reads; Hertfordshire: The Handiwork of Sir Guy de Gravade of Tring Station By Geology Disco Earthworks bearing names related to Grim or the Devil proliferate around Britain: Grim's Ditches exist in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire and West Yorkshire, and Devil's Dykes exist in Sussex, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk (near Weeting) and Hertfordshire. Though only rarely do legends still exist accounting for the earthworks, the exception that proves the rule comes from Hertfordshire, where one of the Grim's Ditches, The Grim's Dyke, an earthwork that stretches across Buckinghamshire and past Berkhamsted, is said to be the handiwork of the magician Sir Guy de Gravade of Tring Station, who had sold his soul to Satan in return for arcane knowledge and the secrets of alchemy. 2nd part of the text from the insert. Text reads; Possibly the Reverend J. W. Burgess had this in mind when he observed that the ditch owed its name both to the general superstition concerning the supernatural origins of earthworks and to a belief that only a magician could dig a trench so deep and long. Asserting that Grima was Saxon for a magician, he adds, 'And with this clue, we may fairly interpret Grimsdyke as the Ditch of the Wizard.' Unfortunately for Sir Guy, it appears that the devil eventually came to collect his side of the bargain; legend states that the alchemist and his castle vanished into thin air one night. With the crackle of torches, the thudding of moving earth and the hypnotic swirl of a cloaked maelstrom resounding throughout, 'The Handiwork of Sir Guy de Gravade of Tring Station' is an account of this final meeting with the devil, when his dark shadow extends itself across the castle and brings hell with him. After the encounter, nothing is left of Sir Guy or the castle itself.

THE BLACK TOWER (1987): Channel 4 aired John Smith's stunning 'architectural horror' short about a mysterious black building which follows a man wherever he goes. A metaphor for depression, it's in the same 'once seen, never forgotten' category as La Cabina.

First time watching When The Wind Blows last night. It felt like early Ghibli films with Colonel Blimp, and heavy on the Wallace and Gromit. Incredible distillation of Englishness. Watched with @famishedforblonds.bsky.social @geologydisco.bsky.social
