Honestly that Mewgenics shit is starting to piss me off the more I sit on it. Not the game or whatever, just the response to the complaints. Not even for reasons of political awareness. I just keep seeing the statement being shared and thinking, "literally anyone can make a hit game."

I'm fairly certain that people are not crying at their desks because they heard Ethan Klein meow. I think they are as smart and capable as you or I, and they are going "wait what the fuck," and trying to make sense of where and who their money supports. I think that's far more likely.

I think folks are annoyed because they don't want to have unknowingly supported those people/don't want to support a guy that may be supporting those people, and I think that's fair. I think him making it about people being sensitive about meows is intentionally trying to adjust the narrative.

everything is an investment to players. time. money. and when that thing disappears there's resentment. even if the time spent at the time felt valuable. the slow decline of live service was predated by mobile and mmorpgs (as mentioned by someone in my previous thread). genres that rely on ls.

the desire for single-player games also comes from the security of knowing you won't spend $$$ on something that is likely intangible and may not exist within a month. two months. three months. maybe even weeks. it's to have something, that you know won't disappear. or the $$ spent on cosmetics.

i think it's also worth mentioning that consumer trust has been slowly eroded away over the years re: live service. you saw it happening w/ JP mobile games over the past decade. a game comes out. closes three months later. consumers won't spend on battle passes, micro-transactions, etc.

Found out I can turn off the noise and grain on Mewgenics, and that might help tremendously.

I was venting to my friend about my gripes with, like, media discussion. She kept trying to articulate something and couldn't figure out how to say it. Today, she found the term she was trying to make sense of.
