Tried to live out my Heated Rivalry fantasy on the lagoon near my house today but it turns out I am not as good at hockey as I was when I last played on a team at thirteen.

I absolutely hate generative AI but I’m just so slightly tempted to prompt it to read this text in a German accent and layer it with footage of a Hitler speech.
Eyes wide open, folks. They're revealing the supervillain plot.

Blows my mind that some of the same journalists who see Trump as a want-to-be dictator at home are earnestly discussing the "challenges" for this same man to "bring democracy" to a country it just illegal invaded. Please grow up.

Without drawing an equivalency, I think it bears noting that Trump’s justification for bombing Venezuela and kidnapping Maduro is not entirely different from Putin’s justification for invading Ukraine.

I get all the FIFA jokes but giving the Nobel Peace Prize to Machado, who is cheering all of this on, is significantly worse

We are a rogue state, run by a dictator, and the international community should treat us as such including all appropriate economic and diplomatic sanctions

Sure would be nice if we had some fucking checks and balances right now instead of an executive branch with two subservient handmaidens

I sure hope a foreign country doesn’t decide to kidnap *our* authoritarian leader to force him to stand trial for his crimes

Popped two Benadryl last night because it turns out I might now be allergic to walnuts and went to bed early and WOW did I pick a hell of a night to do so

Notre Dame Law Professor Mary Ellen O’Connell on CNN re: the strikes.

“There has been a detention, a kidnapping, and a removal of [Maduro] unlawfully.

[While Maduro was abusive], there is no reason to double down on the lawlessness… the U.S. should be demonstrating how to comply with the law.”

rubio pretty much believes in a reverse domino theory for latin america and since he is effectively running foreign policy in the region i would expect him to see cuba as his next target
And I don’t want to sound conspiratorial, but if they feel like they can do this in Venezuela without any serious consequences, they’re absolutely going to try it in Cuba too.

Can’t name it exactly, but this a the peculiar quality of insipid contentlessness that makes you know it came from Weiss directly.
Incredible. CBS Evening News announces five new “simple values” — instead of their “38-page handbook” — as they roll out Tony Dokoupil is lead anchor.

One of those values is simply: “We love America and make no apologies for saying so.”

I only got a 4 on my AP Physics exam, so I’d like to apologize for using my lady powers to steal a tenure-track academic job away from a deserving white man.
Why stop with the SAT? I want to see middle school grades—no, *kindergarten* grades! I wanna know how well someone colored in the lines and could handle scissors! How else would we ever know for sure that that poor disenfranchised white dude didn’t get the job solely because of merit????
This article advocates for the “Faculty Merit Act” that would — get this — require all faculty applicants to submit their *SAT* scores. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Holy shirts that’s hilarious.

“Tonight on CBS: do you really need to evacuate for a hurricane? Rather than ask a meteorologist, we’ll be speaking to one random Florida man who came in fourth place in his local python wrestling league last year, because *your* view matters to us.”
Bari Weiss’s CBS News directly attacking academics, subject matter experts, in the promo for her new CBS Evening News.
