Everyone wish Max Furheimer and Teddy Adormeow a happy 4th birthday!
“To achieve the condition of an animal at the level of reflection—that is freedom. Freedom means not having to work.”
Will always remember that he wrote a horrible MAPH thesis at UChicago on Wagner 🤣🙂‍↔️✌🏽
this is small comfort given he has state power and i don’t but i am struck by what an obviously weak and fragile man miller is. a blubbering piss baby whose entire affect and personality is an attempt to make up for his profound feelings of inadequacy
MILLER: The US is using its military to secure our interests unapologetically in our hemisphere. We're a superpower. It's absurd we'd allow a nation in our backyard to become a supplier of resources to our adversaries

TAPPER: Sovereign countries shouldn't be able to do what they want?

I've already been hearing faculty discussion adapting to this policy by basically writing stripped down syllabi that include *only* the required boilerplate and nothing else, with things like course themes, reading schedules and such kept in separate documents to avoid the university owning them.
The UNC system just released its final policy on mandatory syllabi disclosure, stating that syllabi are university (not faculty) IP and certain course info must be posted on new, publicly searchable databases before every semester.

A thread about what's changed from the draft I reported on earlier:
NEW: Public universities in red states, from Texas to Florida, are increasingly required to make their syllabi public. The University of North Carolina may be next. For decades we have competed with UNC for talented PhD students interested in studying European politics. Sometimes they won, despite their significantly lower stipends, in part because of their great Europe center. So much for that.

Just a reminder to petition signers that one major action is withholding membership renewal dues and end of year donations. Also a reminder to petition haters that anonymous signatories are folks in precarious positions, whose very publicity could be a liability for job security.
Not AMS sending out membership renewal emails NOW, while there’s an open petition and a Chronicle article about it.

Hearings repeatedly ended with cases dismissed by the government, allowing plainclothes federal agents to carry out arrests in courthouse hallways in close coordination with attorneys from the Department of Homeland Security. Here are some images of what that looks like.

It’s horrifying to hear that the 🧊operation is named after a children’s book, the message of which is saving your friends from slaughter. Protect your neighbors. Our community is terrific.
The operation in the Triangle comes amid “Operation Charlotte’s Web,” in which over 100 people have so far been detained in Charlotte, another Democrat-run city targeted by the Trump administration as part of the president’s efforts to ramp up deportations.

Why is a university in stellar financial condition seeking to impose a $70 million cut on its lowest-paid staff? This audit lays bare the truth: cuts at UNC-Chapel Hill are the result of political pressure.

ICE appears to be headed to Raleigh today.

If you suspect ICE presence, call the Siembra hotline to verify: 336-543-0353. It is important to share information, not spread panic.

If you see an arrest happening, make noise, take video, draw a crowd.

Know your rights:
