The tipping point came not when Alex Pretti was killed, but when Minnesotans refused to respond violently and formed the most effective American mass resistance movement in decades.

A stand-up comedian in Russia, Artemy Ostanin, is facing six years in prison for telling a joke that offended some veterans.

Is anyone in MAGA going to speak up and defend this man's free speech rights? They seem to care a lot about free speech in Europe but never mention Russia.

Good question.

1) Covering substantive issues is harder than repeating press releases and reading the crime blotter

2) Challenging power and calling out BS makes powerful people angry

3) There is an audience for the old 'litany of tragedy' local news model of gawking at others' misfortune
Again, I ask: Why can't local news elsewhere be this factual and informative instead of fluff stories and "live" shots from the scene where some horrific crime happened more than a day ago?

People in Colorado have no idea how fortunate they are.

HCR @hcrichardson.bsky.social says to read this whole speech, because Carney's plans may just be the wave of the future..a good one! I say you should read it all, too, but, you know, Heather's just so much taller..
Canadian PM Carney’s speech at Davos reportedly received a standing ovation.

The speech marked the end of an era.

It will no doubt be looked to as part of the historical record of the end of the transatlantic rules-based international order.

I genuinely don't understood how America took the emoluments clause -- the common-sense bar on a president using his powers to line his own pockets, a law children can understand -- and just said, nah, that doesn't apply for our Very Special Boy.
He’s turned the presidency into the world’s largest ATM machine.

Heard someone saying Tuberville will win.
How the HELL can anyone be confident that a moron football coach will beat a former senator and USAG? Voters KNOW Tuberville is an empty suit. The people of Alabama deserve a campaign with issues and debate.
GA rejected Hershel Walker. AL will choose Jones.

Reagan’s words about tariffs are going viral after Trump’s insistence that they are “fake” created a “Streisand Effect”
Here’s the original clip of Ronald Reagan from April 25, 1987, where he delivered a complete and total rebuke against tariffs. Trump's calling Reagan’s words here “FAKE” and “fraudulent.” They’re 100% real. And the original clip is actually far worse for Trump, as much is left out of the ad:

You can literally watch Reagan’s words side-by-side with Canada’s ad.

They didn’t misrepresent anything.

Trump is lying. Again. As usual.

Republicans are already scheming to lock in power they can’t win honestly.

Prop 50 is how we stop them. It puts redistricting back in our hands, not theirs.

A YES vote means fair maps, real representation, and a Congress that answers to voters — not party bosses. VOTE #YesOnProp50
