I love pre codes and Jane Fonda
Goldie Hawn is the funniest woman alive imo

Rewatched All The President's Men in honor of Robert Redford last night. One of my favorites

Had the opportunity to see Boys Go to Jupiter today. Animation can be hit or miss for me, but it was gorgeous and hilarious. There's a good review scene unlike anything I've seen on film.

I have been participating in my local library's book bingo this summer, and I'm really pleased with how much I've read outside of my regular comfort zone.

Soundtrack was a banger. Art direction gorgeous.

Maybe a hot take, but the plot of this is boring.
For Christmas this last year my partner gave me a film series he titled "Not So Silent Cinema" after being inspired by a screening of Radiohead Nosferatu.

Tonight we're watching the final one in his promised series, 1920's The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

Whenever I share mildly romantic 1890s or 1900s films, I usually get replies like "ooo, fornication, showing ankles, I bet they fainted in the aisles"

They had pornography, Kevin.

The Accountant starring Ben Affleck

Less offensive than expected.

Finished reading Katie Gee Salisbury's biography on Anna May Wong this weekend. Really devoured it. I'm now trying to track down as many AMW movies to watch as I can

Watched my first Dorothy Arzner film last night - Merrily We Go to Hell. Pre-codes still surprise me with their frankness. When she starts dating young Cary Grant right in front of her husband? She really is a modern woman!

I didn't know this, super interesting!
Someone asked me to define "actualities" in a silent film context and it was a good question, so I will discuss it a bit.

An Actuality is a nonfiction film that does not have a narrative. It's not a documentary or a travelogue, it simply presents images of the real world.

The Women features one of my favorite settings, divorce ranch in Nevada. Really romanticizes divorce for me.

An indie theater near me hosted a Buster Keaton series earlier this year, and I got to see this one for the first time. My understanding of every Buster Keaton movie is that there's a bit of plot then the stunts ramp up until there's no plot whatsoever

This movie is really no plot just vibes, and I like that.

Had the opportunity to watch the 1931 pre code "Safe in Hell" last night. A real tragedy. A lot to be said about the protagonist's struggle for control in dire situations. Extremely impressed by her constantly lighting matches with the flick of a finger.

I've seen 20+ of his films. An American in Paris might be due for a rewatch soon.
