Mayflowers or Trailing Arbutus are perhaps the most beautiful-smelling flowers in the world. They're also our Provincial flower in Nova Scotia.

It was a beautiful day for a walk in the forest.

If you are Canadian and old enough to remember the first version of this, he uses a different name at the end, but it's actually the same man. Jeff Douglas is now a CBC radio personality.

I like this version better.

The Indigenous People of North America have decided to go back to calling the Gulf of Mexico, “Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl”. It is what the Nahuatl People originally called it as it is the domain of the goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, who is assoc w/water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico.

0n Feb 5, the attorney general legalized the death penalty for "illegal aliens." We feared this was coming, but they did it on week 3.

I found the memo on the justice page of .gov

I love whales, and have been haunted by humpback songs before. It's not surprising that they have more in common with human language than we thought. We pervasively fail to give other life forms the credit and respect they deserve as our neighbours.

The author described his book as: "A story about a boy who comes to understand hard things about faith and empire, and must choose if he’s willing to upend his beliefs in search of the truth. I wish it wasn’t quite so timely, but it’s a book the world still needs in 2025."

This windswept spruce at Martinique Beach was born 100 years too late to be in a Group of Seven painting. Those guys preferred pines anyway. #trees #wind #CanadianArt #MartiniqeBeach

We are heading into dark times. It might feel like everything is outside our control, but it's not. Continue living out your values in daily life. Be kind, speak up when you notice prejudice, help those in need. Every little bit of light makes a difference.

Three friends took my children and me to Martinique Beach. We bundled up. I'm still learning to walk on uneven ground after a bad break, and my energy is low from chemo. I was beyond happy to be there.

Two days before I was scheduled for major surgery, we had a bedbug scare. With the tight deadline we bagged up the bedding and clothing immediately. The exterminator found no traces of bugs the next day.

This image of the shadows on the back of the empty closet made up for some of the annoyance.

Cuttle fish passed adapted versions of the marshmallow test. We tend to have bias for other mammals like us, but it's amazing what other life forms can do.
Honestly, given the state of the world, I’m feeling ready to let cephalopods take the reins of the planet. At least they’d be invested in protecting the oceans from climate change, right? 🌿
Cephalopods Pass Cognitive Test Designed For Human Children
Back in 2021, a test of cephalopod smarts reinforced how important it is for us humans to not underestimate animal intelligence.
